The Southern Indiana Stormwater Advisory Committee is kicking off its first Stormwater Awareness Week starting Saturday, June 18th. The SWAC’s goal is to increase awareness in the community about stormwater pollution and provide simple examples of how you can help. We all are responsible for doing our part to help keep our streams, lakes and rivers clean. You can help by doing simple things, including:
- Washing your car on grassy areas in order to keep dirty, soapy water from flowing into our creeks;
- Picking up trash and litter before it is washed into our waterways;
- Collecting unwanted chemicals and household hazardous wastes, such as used oil, antifreeze, batteries, florescent light bulbs, paints, fertilizers/pesticides, etc and properly disposing of these at your local solid waste department;
- Participating in community stream clean-up events, such as ORSANCO’s RiverSweep;
- Encouraging others to get involved in protecting our waters for future generations.
